SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS

DISSERTATION RESEARCH

Perceptions of the school counselor evaluation process in an urban district-

https://eric.ed.gov/?id=ED589436

Committee Members: Dr. Norris Haynes, Sponsor, Dr. Jennifer Parzych, and Dr. Dolores Garcia-Blocker

A mixed methods study examined the perceptions of school counselors and their evaluating instructional managers of the current evaluation process and examined the alignments of the existing evaluation process with PSCER. Specifically, this study explored who conducts counselor evaluations, the evaluation process, what competency indicators school counselors perceive as important, support and training systems for administrators who evaluate school counselors, and the evaluation rubric’s alignment with the PSCER rubric. The results informed the development of an evaluation framework for school counselors that included objectives, indicators, portfolio evidence, observation evidence, and necessary administrator support.
